Ames City Hospital Trustee Election Profile: Austin Woodin | New

Austin Woodin is a native of Ames and hopes to improve the health of his community as a trustee of Mary Greeley.
Austin Woodin was appointed to Mary Greeley’s Board of Directors in January 2020. He is on the ballot to be formally elected to the position to complete the remaining two years in office.
Woodin is currently working as a financial advisor with Edward Jones. He has been with Edward Jones since 2003 and became the firm’s limited partner in 2011.
Woodin, a graduate of Ames High School and Iowa State University, said he wanted to focus on improving the overall health of the community with a strong emphasis on mental health. He acknowledged that the position plays an important role in shaping the planning process.
Woodin said working on the hospital board during a pandemic has been tough. He also mentioned how well the board has handled its work during the pandemic.
“During my tenure on the Board of Directors, I have been impressed with the operations of the Board of Directors and the management team,” said Woodin. “The management team and the entire staff of Mary Greeley Medical Center have been nothing short of remarkable in these unprecedented times.”
Woodin said he was worried for staff and their families as the pandemic still affects their daily lives. According to the New York Times, there were 135 new cases of COVID-19 on October 20.
“This pandemic has heightened my concerns for staff, long hours, potential burnout and more,” Woodin said. “We must continue to improve our ability to recruit and retain the best staff and make Mary Greeley Medical Center the preferred destination for healthcare professionals and support staff.”
