10 seek 4 seats in Albany library trustee race

ALBANY — Races for library trustees across the region aren’t often this competitive, but the May 17 race for four seats smashes that notion — it drew 10 candidates.
These townspeople have submitted valid nomination petitions to the Albany City School District and will appear on the ballot in this order, according to the library:
(1) Sarah Macinski of Edgewood Avenue
(2) Gene Damm of Fairlawn Avenue
(3) Kevin Whitehead of Wood Terrace
(4) Paige A. Barnum of Lancaster Street.
(5) Lynnette D. Robinson of Beverly Avenue
(6) Elm Street Ford PR McLain
(7) Kirsten Broschinsky of Edgewood Avenue
(8) Andrea C. West of Edgecomb Street
(9) Tabora D. Marcus of 2nd Street
(10) Carlos Velasquez of Jefferson Street
Three vacancies are due to the expiry of the incumbents’ terms, and the fourth is to fill the balance of an unexpired term. The top three elected will win full five-year terms. The person with the fourth-most votes will win the remaining four years on an unexpired term, the library said.
The public can meet the candidates at a forum at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 3 at the Washington Ave. branch, 161 Washington Ave.
The session will be videotaped and posted on the library’s YouTube channel.
Details of the library’s budget vote, also on May 17, and the election of trustees are available on the library’s website at www.albanypubliclibrary.org. Look under “Quick Links” at the top of any website page.

On a separate note, the Board of Directors will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4 to discuss candidates for the CEO position. The meeting can be watched live on YouTube.
The board does not expect to take any action at the meeting, which will include an executive or in camera session. If decisions need to be made, they will be voted on in a public session, the library said in a statement.
The board has been searching for an executive director since Scott C. Jarzombek left in late October for an out-of-state position. The next regular meeting of the Board of Directors will take place on Tuesday, May 10. This meeting will be broadcast live on YouTube starting at 6 p.m.
